How India Can Address Climate Extremes

Climate change poses significant challenges to India, particularly in terms of increasing the frequency and intensity of climate extremes such as heat waves, floods, and unpredictable monsoons. India is already experiencing a preview of the large-scale disasters and socioeconomic upheaval that extreme events could create without adequate mitigation strategies. Further, rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, declining groundwater levels, retreating glaciers, intense cyclones, and sea-level rise can precipitate major crises for livelihoods, food security and the economy.

To address these pressing issues, IPE Global, and Esri India, in collaboration with UNESCO and Climate Trends, are hosting a national level symposium on August 6, 2024 from 2.30 pm. The symposium brings together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to deliberate on effective strategies for climate resilience and adaptation. The highlight of the event is the launch of an issue brief titled “Managing Monsoons in a Warming Climate”.

Why Attend?

  • Gain insights into the multifaceted approaches to geographical, sectoral and infrastructural hyper-granular risk assessments required to build climate resilience.

  • Discover strategies for managing monsoons and extreme heat events and their impacts on sectors such as agriculture, water resources, and urban planning.

  • Understand the critical role of citizen engagement in enhancing public awareness and driving community-based climate resilience efforts.

  • Unlock innovative financing mechanisms and investment opportunities that support climate actions and sustainable development initiatives.

  • Explore the potential and role of start-up ecosystems and technological innovations in addressing climate challenges and promoting sustainable solutions.

  • Connect with experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and fellow participants to share knowledge, collaborate on projects, and build a network dedicated to addressing climate extremes in India.
