Scholarships for GIS Innovators

In today's dynamic landscape, students equipped with Geographic Information System (GIS) knowledge and skills possess a plethora of career opportunities. Esri India has long been committed to fostering collaboration with academic institutions across all levels, providing invaluable learning resources, hosting events, and offering comprehensive training programs.

Building upon this foundation, Esri India launched the Master’s Scholarships in GIS Program last year, tailored for post-graduate students. This initiative aims to further fuel the passion for geospatial innovation, offering support to budding scholars as they explore, and excel in their geospatial endeavours.

Applications for the 2024-25 edition are now open!

Scholarship Details

  • No. of Scholarships: 10 per year
  • Type of Scholarship: One time
  • Scholarship Amount: INR 1,00,000 (One lac) each for 10 students in a year
  • Selected students will also be given an ArcGIS Personal Use License for 1 year

Eligibility

The Scholarship program is open to Indian students commencing their second year of post-graduate studies (M.Tech/MSc.) in Geoinformatics or related fields at accredited institutes or universities in India. Eligible courses include those focusing on remote sensing, GIS, spatial modeling, spatial analysis, digital image processing for GIS, and other related subjects.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a post-graduate program directly related to geospatial sciences, with an emphasis on the aforementioned subjects.
  • Have successfully completed the first year of their post-graduate course by the end of the academic year 2023-24.
  • Demonstrate outstanding academic performance during the aforementioned academic year.
  • Fulfill any additional selection criteria specified by Esri India as per the scholarship program’s terms and conditions.

All applicants must be recommended by their respective institutes or universities to be considered for the scholarship. Each institute or university may recommend up to three students for the scholarship opportunity.

Application Procedure

For recommending students for the Scholarship, Institutes/Universities need to:

  • Download the application form.
  • Fill out a separate form for each recommended student.
  • Get the Form(s) signed by the student, Head/Dean/Director of the Institute/University, and stamp it.
  • Scan and submit the Form(s) to gis.education@esri.in.

The following documents must also be submitted with the form:

  • A scanned copy of the student’s address proof
  • Scanned copy of college ID-Card
  • First year marksheet
  • Synopsis of projects done in the first year
  • A Statement of Purpose of about 250 words

These documents should be sent to gis.education@esri.in along with the application form.

Selection Procedure

  1. Application Evaluation: All applications will undergo thorough evaluation by a distinguished jury comprising experts in the field of geospatial sciences.
  2. Shortlisting: Institutes and universities will be promptly notified about the shortlisted candidates. These candidates will then be invited to participate in a virtual interview as the next step in the selection process.
  3. Virtual Interview: Shortlisted candidates will undergo a virtual interview conducted by the jury. This interview will provide an opportunity for candidates to showcase their academic achievements, aspirations, and potential contributions to the field of GIS.
  4. Final Selection: The final selection of scholarship recipients will be based on the combined assessment of the interview results and other submitted documents.
  5. Jury Decision: The decision of the jury regarding the selection of scholarship recipients will be considered final and binding.
